Being the Online Editor for Transworld SURF, you’d think that I’d be more up in arms and raving about the Taj vs. Kelly debate (as seen on Tour Talk on this very Web site) that went down at the Boost Mobile Pro. But really, does it even matter? Kelly’s gonna win again and again until he racks up #10, cashes his 10-million dollar check from Quiksilver, and hits the road with his hot, young, girlfriend. Done deal. Sorry Taj, out of your league. In dominance, there’s not much of a story…

But the NFL, now this shit has my blood boiling! Let me tell you this now: I never played a down of organized football in my life yet surfed competitively for ages. Yet when Fall Sundays roll around, I don’t care what the waves are doing?unless it’s the swell of the year?and even then we’ll see how the wind is before bailing on my beloved San Diego Chargers.

As for the blood boiling, it’s all thanks to this guy, Ed Hochuli. Ed is, well, was, one of the most respected referees in the NFL until he blew several calls yesterday in the Chargers vs Broncos matchup. He cost the Chargers the game, and ruined my Sunday. Thanks Ed you jerkoff.

I’m not gonna get too worked up about it, although I already found his email and sent an unpleasant message, to which he courteously replied this:

You can rest assured that nothing you say can make me feel  worse than I
already feel about my mistake on the fumble play.  You have no idea. . .

Affecting the outcome of a game is a devastating feeling.  Officials
strive for perfection - I failed miserably. Although it does no good to
say it, I am very, very sorry.
